Artist -
Karin Richardson
In the raw dramatic landscape of the Southern Oregon Coast there is a continuing conversation with the elements, forces, and rhythms of nature. The experience of this conversation relates to that which simply is and remains. Karin Richardson has a compelling desire to explore, know, and embody this experience as completely and deeply as possible.
Karin uses the sculptural elements of wood, water, wind, and sand as her inspiration. Fire, both in metaphorical and transformational forms, is a dynamic integrating force throughout. Using a wide range of materials and media, her work evolves from a blend of architecture, archaeology, and anthropology.
References to the totemic, ancient markings, and remains appear in Karin's work as repeating forms of remembrance. A need to acknowledge, honor, and remember is present in all of her expressions. She uses materials and processes that trigger deep memory, engage direct, intuitive hands-on interaction, and that relate the essence of the conversation.
Karin describes her artistic process as more interested in revealing a presence than creating one because it opens the door to the unexpected. It is the unexpected, unintended, and unimagined that grabs her attention and gives direction to her realization of visibility, voice, and presence.
